Hvordan har pandemien påvirket og endret demokratiet og verden? Ivan Krastev regnes som en av verdens ledende statsvitere og demokratitenkere. Pandemien er et «pågående samfunnseksperiment vi alle er deltakere i, hvor normaliteten er satt på pause. Mye som tidligere ble betraktet som politisk umulig, har vist seg å være fullt mulig og kanskje til og med ønskelig», sa Ivan Krastev i fjor. Hva sier han nå, under KÅKÅnomics 2021?
«Framtida er her nå. Hvordan pandemien forandrer verden» kom på norsk i 2020, et kort essay spekket med gullkorn og visdom. Underveis i tanke- og skriveprosessen ble fem opprinnelige lærdommer til sju paradokser om den politiske situasjonen i dag og for årene som kommer. Han hevder at globaliseringen i dagens form vil få et kraftig tilbakeslag og at pandemien vil svekke solidariteten i Europa. Han mener vi befinner oss i et historisk veikryss, der konsekvensene av viruset vil føre oss inn i et nytt og ukjent terreng. Temaene er; konflikten mellom gamle og unge, ekspertenes tilbakevending, EUs handlingslammelse, spørsmålet om hvorvidt diktaturer eller demokratier håndterere slike kriser best. Kort sagt om hvordan pandemien har påvirket og trolig endret verden slik vi kjenner den.
Ivan Krastev har en evne til å tenke motstrøms og snu hver stein på jakt etter nye forklaringsmåter. Tvilen og tvisynet preger tenkning og forfatterskap. Krastev er mer opptatt av det han kaller «kollektive handlinger», «små innsikter» og «de ubevisste konsekvensene av våre handlinger», og våger å være personlig. Det skyldes blant annet at han gjerne angriper dagens politikk med historiske briller.

How has the pandemic affected and changed democracy and the world? Ivan Krastev is considered one of the world's leading political scientists and democracy thinkers. The pandemic is an "ongoing social experiment we are all participants in, where normality is paused. Much that was previously considered politically impossible has turned out to be entirely possible and perhaps even desirable ", said Ivan Krastev last year. What is he saying now, during KÅKÅnomics 2021?
Is It Tomorrow Yet? Paradoxes of the Pandemic came out in 2020, a short essay packed with gold nuggets and wisdom. During the thought and writing process, five original lessons became seven paradoxes about the political situation today and for years to come. He claims that globalization in its current form will have a severe setback and that the pandemic will weaken solidarity in Europe. He believes we are at a historic crossroads, where the consequences of the virus will lead us into a new and unknown terrain. The themes are the conflict between old and young, the return of experts, the paralysis of EU action, the question of whether dictatorships or democracies handle such crises best. In short, about how the pandemic has affected and probably changed the world as we know it.
Ivan Krastev has an ability to think upstream and turn every stone in search of new explanations. Doubt and double vision characterize thinking and writing. Krastev is more concerned with what he calls "collective actions", "small insights" and "the unconscious consequences of our actions" and dares to be personal. This is partly due to the fact that he likes to attack current politics with a historical view.
