Economic sanctions – do they work?
ONSDAG 26. OKTOBER 2022 KL 19.30
MS SANDNES
One of the easiest «weapons» to resort to in an escalating conflict is to introduce economic sanctions. If we want to punish another country, we introduce sanctions. If that does not work, we increase the sanctions.
Are we fooling ourselves so that we feel empowered when we introduce sanctions? Do they actually have any effect on a country subject to them?
Europe is at war against Russia. Ukraine is in a military war, while other European countries are in a sanctions war. Both the Russian people and the residents of the other parties are suffering – but to what end? We ask the question of whether the sanctions work as intended in this debate.
